Michigan Man Arrested After Attempting to Cash Fraudulent Check

State troopers from the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post arrested a man in Wexford County at the end of December 2022 after he attempted to cash a fraudulent check. The Petoskey News-Review noted that after the man presented a check in the amount of $4,915.80 at the 4Front Credit Union in Haring Township, it prompted workers to call the police (1).

Upon arriving, officers questioned how the man got to the credit union and where he lived. Although the man was not able to tell officers where his residence was located, he did inform the troopers that he had been dropped off at the location by individuals whose whereabouts were unknown.

Michigan man says he was recruited by two men to cash fraudulent checks at credit unions.

While speaking with troopers, the man, who has been identified as Nathaniel Wayne Street, 25, revealed that he had been recruited by two men driving a silver Kia bearing a Florida license plate. The news source says police were also able to determine that Street had successfully cashed fraudulent checks in the Petoskey area and received $700 for doing so.

The man reportedly told police that he was “just trying to make some easy money.” After being arrested and booked in the Wexford County Jail, the man was given a personal recognizance bond and was scheduled to appear in court on January 3, 2023. The man is also being investigated for other incidents that occurred in Boyne, Charlevoix, East Jordan, and Ellsworth.
