INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Jared Fogle, the former spokesman for Subway who rose to fame after losing a substantial amount of weight via the “Subway Sandwich Diet,” has made headlines once again. Unfortunately, this time it’s under much different circumstances – the criminal kind.
Fogle will be needing the help of a very talented Indiana criminal defense attorney after having been suspected of a sexual crime. Fogle is now expected to plead guilty to possession of child pornography charges, according to news sources.
A FOX59 article explains that Fogle will likely accept a plea deal on Wednesday. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss the details and the extent of the pornography charges, which, according to court documents, now appear to suggest that Fogle also distributed child pornography and paid for sex with minors.
The charges follow an FBI raid of Fogle’s home in Zionsville, Indiana back in July. Both state and federal authorities were investigating Fogle, who is married and has two children, on suspicion of child pornography. Authorities obtained a warrant for the home search and seized several belongings from the residence, including computers and DVDs.
Shortly after the incident began circulating the media, Subway decided to end its partnership with Fogle.
A few months prior, Russell Taylor, the former director of Fogle’s Jared Foundation was also investigated for child pornography and was arrested in April. Taylor was not only accused of possessing pornographic materials containing children, he was also accused of producing child pornography.
When authorities searched Taylor’s home, they found more than 500 pornographic videos featuring images of children. While in jail, Taylor unsuccessfully attempted suicide.
If convicted, Fogle can expect to incur hefty fines and to spend several years – if not a lifetime – behind bars.
Child pornography is an extremely serious criminal offense. According to U.S. Federal Laws, child pornography is considered a form of illegal contraband. Federal law prohibits the possession, distribution, and production of any sexual images or footage containing children. Those accused of such a crime can be prosecuted under both federal and state laws.
